Executive Coaching (EC) can be defined as inspiring leaders to make behavioral changes which transform themselves and the people around them thereby increasing business results and performance. Successful Executive Coaches are those who understand the knowledge of human behavior, motivation, and behavioral change.

Michael uses a science-based psychology of coaching. This approach goes beyond mere description and underlying psychological mechanisms. It provides insight into how best facilitate the adoption of specific behaviors.

As an I/O Psychology Professional, Michael Everett utilizes an approach called Transtheoretical Model of Change (TTM) (Prochaska & DiClemente, 1984). ). The model shows that the process of change is not an ‘all or nothing’ dichotomy. Change involves a progressive transition through a series of five identifiable stages. Individuals will experience a number of cognitive and motivational shifts as they move through different stages.

Utilizing a variety of valid psychometric assessments affords Michael the ability to develop a 'road map' of change required. Working with the client in identifying growth asset as well as growth challenges allows the coach-client relationship to focus on those areas most specific to the client's needs. These assessment are much more than 'personality type indicators.' They are valid instruments that look at the psychological processes and self-efficacy.

Self-efficacy plays a major role in behavior change effecting whether an individual decides to make changes.  The amount of effort put forth in making the changes and the time frame which these changes occur are also attributable to self-efficacy (Bandura, 1982; Bandura. 1986; DiClemente & Prochaska, 1990).  The TTM model predicts that an individual’s self-efficacy will increase as he or she moves through the stages.

As a member of the International Coaches Federation (ICF) and Professional Coaches Association of Michigan (PCMA) Michael has the educational and professional experience required to guide you through the change process. Additionally he is guided by the ethical standards set by both the American Psychological Association (APA) and the ICF.
